What
the Olympics Mean to Me: Rio 2016:
The Olympic Games have always been a highlight in my
life. Whenever the Olympics are on TV, I
don’t want to watch anything else. If I had
to describe the feelings I have regarding the Olympic ideal, I would say that
the Olympics exemplify the core values of life:
struggle and fight and sweat, blood and tears, and dreams and
competition. They are about inspiration
and the unifying value of sport. The
world is truly a better place because of the athletes. They want to be there, they want to compete,
they need to struggle and feel pain, and, most of all, they provide the rest of
us humans with the ideals of sport that teach us what human beings can
achieve. They are our role models in
life. It’s about beauty and glory and a
complete reverence for what it takes for athletes to first earn a place on their
country’s Olympic team, make their country proud by doing their very best and perhaps,
ultimately, earn a medal. The Olympic
Games are a symbol of an athlete’s struggle and pain to achieve greatness. Rio
2016, in particular, is a symbol of the nation of Brazil struggling to make
their Olympic Games the most meaningful sporting event ever. It’s a well known fact that the Brazilians
have experienced severe financial hardships in their attempt to bring these
Games to fruition. So, no matter how it
turns out, we have to applaud Rio 2016
for the beautiful and touching Opening Ceremonies presented this evening
(Friday August 5, 2016) and for the Games yet to come in the next sixteen
days. Hurray for Brazil!
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil looks like such a beautiful
city! It’s situated in mountains beside
a bay, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean.
Numerous apartment and office buildings are nestled at the foot of the
mountains and line the bay’s shoreline and make the city look very appealing.
