Today, I am completely on my own since James went
with Brent early this morning. He is
being dropped off at work with his Papa who is Tori’s father, James’
grandfather. Brent and Papa (Dave Waye)
work together except that Dave works the night shift and Brent works the day
shift. And, of course, Brent and Dave
are connected as family through James.
Brent will be coming home later on after work to get me and drop me off
at Homewood Suites in Ajax. This will be
my second stay at this hotel. I’ll be
staying here until at least September 3rd, maybe longer. As of tomorrow, I can go see a travel agent
and make my travel plans for Europe. I
just to make sure that I sign up for two guided tours (in the UK and
continental Europe) and see some countries I didn’t see thirty-five years ago. I’ll also have to book my flight to and from
London, England and this will be part of my overall travel itinerary. Hopefully, I’ll get a good deal for what I
want to do there. I plan on being away
for at least three months, maybe more.
Meanwhile, the Rio 2016 Olympics have been
great! There are only three days left
though. I have a lot of writing to do at
my hotel and then preparing my final manuscript for publication via
Authorhouse. I’ve recorded plenty of
results, mostly for Canadians, for the acrobatic and artistic sports. I will probably mention the top Canadian
results from some other sports as well.
All I can say is – it’s been fun spending my last week in August with
Brent and James in Janetville. I hope
they’ll miss me when I go away. I know
I’ll miss them. I still have to write
Brent’s home address down so that I can send them postcards from the UK and
Europe. I might also send some photos
and text messages too, occasionally.
Brent is planning his first family do at his place
in mid-September. I don’t think I’ll be
there because I plan to be gone by then.
I am planning to give Brent some money for two
different things: two cases of beer (as
a thank-you for having me there), and for his overdue property tax bill. I also gave James his birthday present early
(his next birthday is on September 2nd) and I hope he spends it
wisely – it’s a prepaid Visa card for $75.00.
I can’t think of anything else to say now except
that I’ve been watching Olympic women’s golf this morning. There are a couple of Canadian women
playing. The players all play four
rounds of golf over four days for a total of seventy-two holes. (There are eighteen holes in every golf
course and the players play the whole course every day of competition.). All of these golfers are professionals in
their respective countries. Today, they
are playing, not for money, but for the prestige of having earned an Olympic
medal. One prominent golfer, Inbee Park
of Korea, is the favourite since she’s already won seven major
tournaments. As it turns out, she did
win the Olympic gold medal with a stroke total of -16! This is a remarkable achievement!
Athletics finishes tonight with the men’s 4 x 400 m
relay final, featuring Canada’s Andre de Grasse running the anchor leg for
Canada. The Canadian team won a bronze
medal in this race! Andre can add that
bronze to his collection, which includes the silver medal he won already in the
men’s 200 m sprint final. He’d also won a bronze medal in the men’s 4 x
100 m relay final. For Canada’s Damian
Warner in men’s decathlon, there was a bronze medal. Regardless of the colour of the medal won by
an athlete, I am truly proud of Canada’s athletes. It doesn’t matter what their particular sport
or event is. The Olympics Games are
always terrific to watch and always have been.
Our support helps our athletes stay committed to excellence in their
particular sports and events.
I’d love to visit Rio de Janeiro one day. Brent, James, Dave (Burton), and I are
probably going to the Dominican Republic early next year. It’s not far from Rio. Who knows?
All I know right now is – travel is my mantra and will be from now on,
whether I go to Europe, or travel in Canada, or go to the Dominican. There are tons of places to visit and I will
go practically anywhere whenever I get the chance.
